Welcome Message

Tetsu Satow, MD, PhD

Dear Colleagues and Friends,

I am pleased to announce that the 39th Annual Meeting of the Japanese Society for Neuroendovascular Therapy (JSNET2023) will be held at the Kyoto International Conference Center from November 23 (Thursday) to 25 (Saturday), 2023. It is a great honor for me to host this long-established meeting. I would like to take this opportunity to express my sincere gratitude to my seniors for their guidance, to those who have worked with me, and to all members throughout Japan.

The theme of this academic meeting is "Advance and Harmony in Endovascular Therapy". This theme was inspired by the theme of the Japan World Exposition held in Osaka in 1970, the year of my birth, "Progress and Harmony of Mankind". In French, this theme is translated as "Progrès Humain dans l'Harmonie" (The Progress of Mankind under Harmony).

Needless to say, advances in technology and devices are the driving force for the emergence of neuroendovascular therapy (NET) as the first line therapy for stroke, and physicians must be equipped with the latest technology and knowledge. However, treatment requires a variety of harmonization.

I strongly believe that the best results for patients can be achieved by harmonizing the technology and devices with the physicians, within the NET team, with the vascular neurosurgeons who are the counterpart in stroke treatment, with the co-medicals and companies who support the treatment, with other medical departments, and above all, with the pathology and NET. And I think it is time for us to strongly recognize the importance of harmonization written above.

As you know, this theme is not meant to slow down the cutting edge of new devices and treatments. Rather, it is a theme for members to bring all their experiences and ideas, not to blindly praise new things nor being averse to them, but to discuss how to harmonize them with society, and to search for future directions together.

Mr. Keiichiro Hirano, an Akutagawa Prize-winning author, will deliver a cultural lecture on November 24. His unique concept of "Bunjin" refers to the different personalities that are separated according to interpersonal relationships and environments, and I believe it is important for us to live in harmony with these different personalities. I am confident that Mr. Hirano's lecture will give you courage and hope for your future activities.

As of this writing, the end of COVID-19 is not yet in sight, but I hope to further develop and realize the tradition of "heated but harmonious discussions," which is a tradition of the JSNET annual meeting, just as Dr. Toshiyuki Fujinaka, the former president of JSNET, had in his mind.

I wish you will not only gain or reorganize your knowledge at this meeting, but also develop your communication skills, which are often insufficiently sophisticated through participation and attendance on the web. I ardently ask all the members to participate in the conference in person as long as the social situation permits.

We are excited to see you in Kyoto, our honorable ancient capital of Japan, in next November when beautiful autumn leaves also welcome you.
